      Wayyy late on this, but I think it’s because of the heightened guilt Vampires endure. I think he just feels bad that Elena and Jenna have been brought into everything they have, and bad that Elena is the one to have to explain to her aunt that they’ve been lying all along.

    Though it’s obviously based on them…the series is nothing like the books to me. Been nearly 8 years since I read them, but I don’t recall them being quite like this. Loved the books and love the series..just in different ways :)
